What is the purpose of excipients and active ingredients in pharmaceutical products?
In most cases, the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (galenics) requires the use of what are known as excipients, in order to be able to create the various dosage forms, such as tablets, capsules or ointments. In addition, the excipients in the finished product play a variety of roles, such as in relation to its shelf life, flavour, bioavailability, pH value or the formation of emulsions.
Active ingredients are the biologically active substances that may influence the biochemical and physiological processes in living beings.
